Trailing by nine points early in the fourth quarter, the Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team rallied for a 72-70 win over Gogebic on Tuesday night.
The Golden Rams jumped out to a 12-3 lead early in the first quarter and seemed primed to run away with the game. But the Samsons fought back to cut the deficit to 14-11 at the end of the first with the teams settling on a 30-30 tie at halftime.
Gogebic scored the first five points of the third quarter. Anoka-Ramsey kept battling to take a 42-41 lead before a 5-0 spurt from Gogebic saw the lead change hands again.
Anoka-Ramsey trailed 65-56 with just under eight minutes left in the game, but a 3-pointer from Jada Lussier jump started an 8-0 run culminated by another Lussier 3.
After a layup by Gogebic, Lussier connected again on a 3 to tie the score at 67 apiece.
Mariam Alowonle scored to give Anoka-Ramsey at two point advantage before a 3 from Gogebic made it 70-69 Samsons.
Tereya McDaniel-Vaughn scored to put the Golden Rams back in front by one and Gogebic failed to score on their final possession after a late free throw from Anisa Longs.
Lussier led the way with 18 points on 4 of 11 from 3 to go with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
McDaniel-Vaughn scored 17 points while adding seven rebounds.
Alowonle finished with 13 points.
The Golden Rams held Gogebic to 33.8 percent shooting and forced 21 turnovers.
Anoka-Ramsey improves to 7-1 overall. Next up is a trip to MCAC Northern Division foes MN North Vermilion and Mesabi Range.
