Men's Basketball Rolls to Win over MN West

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team won their fifth straight game in taking care of Minnesota West 106-71 on Wednesday evening in Coon Rapids.

The Golden Rams jumped out to a 7-0 lead and lead 17-5 just five minutes into the game.

A three from Edvonte Copeland pushed the lead to 22-7 at the 13:44 mark, but Minnesota West trimmed the deficit to 28-20 with ten minutes to play in the half.

Leading by eight with eight minutes remaining, the Golden Rams extended the lead back up to 15, 48-33 after a layup and three from Chris Morgan.

After a Minnesota West layup with 2:44 left, Anoka-Ramsey would outscore the BlueJays 11-1 over the rest of the half to lead 59-36 at the break.

Mamadou Ngom opened the second half with a three-pointer and the lead grew to 75-50 after a Zane Lind jumper.

The Golden Rams took their first 30-point lead with 9:45 to play after Ramose Riddley scored to make the score 86-55.

A layup from Harley Shear extended the lead to 100-61 and the Golden Rams would cruise through the last five minutes of play.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 51.2 percent (44 for 86) and held Minnesota West to just 30.3 percent shooting.

The Golden Rams also held a 54 to 39 edge in rebounds.

Copeland finished with 26 points.

Ngom had a double-double with 21 points and ten rebounds.

Morgan scored 17 points to go with 12 rebounds, and Kevin Schramm chipped in with 12 points.

Mahad Haji recorded nine assists.

The #2 ranked Golden Rams improve to 17-1 overall, 5-0 in the MCAC Southern Division and will travel to Rochester Community and Technical College on Saturday, January 28 for a 3:00pm tip.
