Second Half Surge Leads to Win over Cedar Valley

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team opened the 2016-2017 season with a 90-66 win over Cedar Valley College (TX) on Wednesday evening in Coon Rapids.

The Golden Rams used a 10-0 run over a two minute span of the second half to pull away.

Leading 50-44 with 15:20 left in the half, Edvonte Copeland knocked down a three-pointer to start the spurt which ended with a Mamadou Ngom jumper.

Cedar Valley would score to make it 60-46, but a 10-2 run would push the lead to 70-48 with 10:58 to play.

The Golden Rams led by 10 with 5:34 left in the first half, but Cedar Valley closed the first period with a 11-3 run to pull within 41-39 at hafltime.

Anoka-Ramsey had five players in double figures scoring led by Edvonte Copeland with 22 points on 9 of 15 shooting and 4 of 6 from the three-point line.

Mamadou Ngom scored 18 points on 7 of 14 shooting to go with seven rebounds.

Harley Shear scored 15 points on 6 of 10 from the field and dished out four assists.

Malik Williams narrowly missed a double double with 12 points and nine assists while Kevin Schramm also just missed a double double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Golden Rams shot 55.4 percent for the game including 61.8 percent (21-34) in the second half and made 11 of their 20 three-point attempts.

Ball movement was a key to the game as the Golden Rams recorded 21 assists on their 36 made shots.

Anoka-Ramsey will next play on Friday, November 11th as they host the ARCC Classic.  Four games are slated to be played on November 11th and four additional on November 12th.

The Golden Rams will face Madison College at 7pm on November 11th and Gogebic Community College at 2pm November 12th.
