Golden Rams Earn Wins over Hibbing, St. Kate's

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team picked up two more wins in their final non-conference games, defeating fellow NJCAA Top Ten opponent Hibbing 91-80 on Friday, then dispatching the St. Catherine's JV 74-46 on Saturday.

Mikayla Homola had a big afternoon in the win over Hibbing, totaling a season-high 40 points on 14 of 31 shooting.  

The Golden Rams jumped out to a 34-21 lead after the first quarter and were on the verge of blowing the game open until Hibbing fought back to pull within 53-52 at halftime.

The hot shooting from the two teams cooled in the second half as neither team could pull away until a late Anoka-Ramsey run sealed the win.

Anoka-Ramsey forced 25 turnovers and out-rebounded the Cardinals 43-33.


On Saturday, Mikayla Homola scored the first 10 points of the game for Anoka-Ramsey, and the Golden Rams cruised to a 74-46 win over St. Catherine's JV team.  Homola finished with a double-double, scoring 30 points, and collecting 10 steals.

Anoka-Ramsey controlled the first quarter out scoring St. Kate's 26-14.  Homola led the offensive attack with 19 points.  The Golden Rams shot 10-21 from the field, including 3-three pointers, for a 12 point lead.

St. Kate's tightened up defensively in the 2nd quarter, and while Anoka-Ramsey was able to increase their lead.  They only outscored them 17-14 for the quarter, and a halftime lead of 43-28.

The third quarter was all Anoka-Ramsey as they limited St. Kate's to 7 total shots.  The Golden Rams outscored St. Kate's 22-6, and pushed the lead to 21 entering the 4th.

In the 4th Coach Dewitt relied on his bench for the quarter, and the Golden Rams were able to close out the 74-46 win to improve to 11-3.

Maddy Craig quietly chipped in 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for the Golden Rams.  Charo Nickens also reached double figures with 14 points.

The Golden Rams return to the court this Wednesday as they go on the road to play St. Cloud Technical and Community College.  The next home game is on the 16th against Minnesota State Community and Technical College.
